Setting: This Chapter takes place in the year 1966. Da-Zi-Bao's are written in this chapter that are historical.

Plot: Ji-Li tells her parents about the Da-zi-bao that was written about her and they are very concerned so they make her stay home for a couple of days. When she finally returns, Ji-Li is nominated to be a Red Successor which is a big part for kids in the Cultural Revolution. Dui-Hai starts talking, and brings up the fact that Ji-li has a landlord grandfather, which was a "four old." She can not become a Red Successor because of her "black" class status. One day she is called to go to a meeting with the red successors to point out her problems. Now Ji-Li is picked on and put in a struggle meeting with her Red Successor classmates and she is criticized so harshly that she cries. She wishes her life to become normal and wants someone to care for her.

Characters:I learned that Ji Li has a terrible life and she doesn't want to be disliked or not chosen because her grandfather was a landlord and her dad was a rightist. I also learned that the people Ji Li helped can be against her if it they want to follow chairman Mao's bright future. I also learned that chairman Mao can make people believe in him.

Analysis:This chapter is important because it shows how people can leave you behind for another person. It also shows how strict, people can be to have a bright future not a bad and unlucky one. This chapter shows how scared people got in the cultural revolution. It also shows how you can be treated if your grandfather or father was something bad. You shouldn't be treated this way because of your grandparent or someone, you should be treated likethe person you really are.
